Firefox Myths..

How much do you picky about your browser? I’m for one not the same as the others who were;

“Yeah, I just use whatever browser, its the same anyway.” or

“Internet Explorer from Microsoft, hence its the best.”

For whom that cares about their times spent on the Internet will most likely share the same opinion that Internet Browser is like their BMW’s or Harley’s. Its all about how faster, how stylish and how safe your ride is.

Anyway, few years back I’ve been using Internet Explorer(IE) with ease without any complaint and difficulties. Considering I was still a newbie to cyber world, I still can access my favorite website’s , chatting on MSN or ICQ, downloading picture and stuff, you know those common things you do on the web. I was happy with what I have back then and thats that, I couldn’t care less.

But when I get to know more about things and stuff, I realize that theres the dark side of the Internet. Phising websites, keyloggers, hackers, scammers, also the irritating pop-ups, spyware and virus. All this things can infect the computer without owners even knowing. Example, there something for common e-shoppers to take note that there are 2 types of HTTP. For Paypal user which is well-known trusted online banking service, you should realize that address of Paypal is https://www.paypal.com/. Note the ‘httpS://www.paypal.com/”. It means that this website is “S”= Secure. Those website which does not have “httpS://…” on their address is potentially not safe for you to put your personal e-banking info!.

Mozilla Firefox is the one of the earlier browser that was introduced to me by APPLE. One of the reason why this browser attract my attention so much and made me officially change from IE to Firefox is that there’s a lot variety of extension that you can install and customized on Firefox. IE also have the same extension called Add-Ons but compared to Firefox’s extension, IE failed in term of community’s participation and support. Not to mention some of IE’s extension will need you to pay to use it. Where as IE have only few add-ons and p2p, Firefox have hundred’s of free extension that I can choose to improve my Internet needs. Lovely isn’t it?.

Opera is also another browser which is quite nice and its recommended by one of my favorite pro-blogger LiewCF. Eventhough I’m still new to Opera but after only few test-run its already make me fall in love with it. Opera is no doubt faster as said, its also safer, and consume much less memory which make it wasn’t a bad choice either compare to Firefox. Opera too got its own extension known as Widgets but like IE’s fate, Firefox’s add-ons is way much better.

But despite having Firefox as my best browser at the moment, i stumbled across this site, which explain in detail about Firefox and its other browser siblings. It describes that most of the good stuff that been said about Firefox is just a LIE. Firefox awesomeness is a MYTH! Firefox, well known for its free software is actually not non-profit software after all, those famous extensions mostly are buggy, Firefox itself have a lot bugs which is not solve for years now and not stable which as described still is. Firefox also not fast in term of surfing speed, slowing your computer system down because using a lot memory and more vulnerable to hackers attack compared to others. It sounds like Firefox itself was unusable!!

Okay, Firefox sucks. Then what? Opera too cinematic? IE too hippy?

Screw BMW or Harley, I’ll walk instead.

    First of all, congrats on your first blog post ever~ Frankly speaking, I don’t care if Firefox is a profit or non-profit software, as long as I don’t have to pay a single cent to use it. I depend too much on Firefox extensions, I don’t know if those extensions are available in other browsers.

    Everything has its good and bad side. Microsoft has lots of bugs too. Maybe Firefox development team should think how to solve the most annoying problem of it using lots of resources and sometimes boost up the CPU usage until 100%. By the way, I love Firefox logo. :P
